Microsoft has announced its first major deal to have its Silverlight-enabled player used to stream online radio. The software giant has partnered with Internap, a content delivery network, to provide Silverlight technology to Citadel Communications, Univision, and Radio One. Under the deal, these radio conglomerates will be using the Silverlight player to stream their hundreds of stations over the Web.

Silverlight is Microsoft’s new competitor to Adobe Flash, which dominates the market with 95%+ penetration. The company has announced several other partners so far, including Entertainment Tonight and World Wrestling Entertainment, but as previously noted, the big play for Microsoft will be using their desktop dominance to get people using Silverlight.
