Last.fm and BBC Launch Charts for UK Radio Stations
Posted by Adam Ostrow under Uncategorized
Last.fm has partnered with BBC Radio’s pop music stations to show users of the social music service what’s being broadcast. Users are then able to view charts of what has been most-played on Radio 1, Radio 2, 1 Xtra, and BBC 6, as well as compare their music taste compatibility with the stations through Last.fm’s “taste-o-meter.”
Last.fm has been tracking what’s been played on BBC’s stations since the spring in order to build up data for their chart features. The company is certainly developing a nice collection of data, and has already teamed up with Music Week to publish some of its charts in the industry magazine. As a part of CBS, Last.fm may be looking to establish itself as the Web 2.0 version of Billboard.
So what’s most popular right now in the UK? On BBC 1, the top three artists are The Hoosiers, Sugababes, and Robyn, followed by a few staples of American pop music including Avril Lavigne and Kanye West. Last.fm is based in London, so its not too surprising these two companies are finding ways to work together.
