Google plans to show off a new iPhone user interface for its applications at the beginning of this year’s MacWorld. The applications that will receive an overhaul are, among others, Gmail, Google Search, Reader, Calendar, iGoogle and Picasa.
Some of the changes include new e-mails automatically showing up without the need to hit refresh, autocomplete that helps you compose e-mails faster, new “month at a glance” view for calendar, and tabs for easy access to all applications. Furthermore, Vic Gundotra, vice president of mobile and developer at Google, cryptically announced offline mode for mobile apps which might happen at a later date. His actual words: “One thing that bothers me is that (mobile) apps don’t work offline.”
This is all just an announcement as MacWorld hasn’t started yet; we’ll be back with detailed coverage when it does.
