Twitter Local - Find Out Who’s Tweeting Near You

twitter localTwitter Local is a really neat Twitter tool that takes a location, postal code or a state, together with a mile radius, and spits out an RSS or XML feed with tweets from that area. For example, here’s an RSS feed with tweets in a 10 mile radius from Los Angeles, California.

It comes in two flavors: you can either use a simple but perfectly functional web form (over here,) or you can download an Adobe Air application which does the same but with a couple more options - you can send tweets from it, or follow your friends/replies similar to Twhirl. Unfortunately, the AIR application didn’t work all that well for me; for example I had to restart it a couple of times to get the tweets to show up, and it doesn’t allow resizing over a certain, quite limited vertical size.

However, the idea is great and the application can be quite useful. As an example, our own Pete Cashmore is in San Francisco at the moment, and as soon as I showed him the app, he tuned in to monitor feeds from that area. If you’re there, send him a shout.
