Visivo Communications, parent company of Qik, has received $3 million in series B funding according to MG Siegler of VentureBeat.
The new round of funding was received from MBQI, and it is expected that Visivo will use the money to expand the site beyond its current insider-style status amongst the big wigs of the tech sphere. If Qik sounds only familiar to you, it is probably due to Robert Scoble’s never ending stream of live video feeds he does at conferences across the globe. While it is doubtful it has anything to do with the new funding, Scoble did note today that Qik has now added RSS feeds to their service so you can be notified of new videos as they happen.
As VentureBeat aptly pointed out, Qik has received a lot of word-of-mouth thanks to the likes of Scoble and Jason Calacanis being users and the hype surrounding Nokia N95. However, it does have to make you wonder if possibly the service is ahead of its time and focused on a very narrow niche given the current technology required to use it. The question may not become one of funding for Qik to survive, but if the technology penetration will be able to catch up to it in time.
