Both Xing and LinkedIn have been layering in more and more social and resource-oriented features into their professional networking sites, for the purpose of providing more helpful information about a personal contact list in an immediate fashion. The latest move by Xing is the inclusion of Google maps, which displays your friends’ designated location.
You can also use your map to view the location of multiple friends, to gain a geographic perspective on the global visualization of your network. On the map, you can view the details of individual contacts, such as their business addresses, for those that have this data publicly displayed on their profile. Having such information displayed on the map is opt-in, and there are various privacy settings to take advantage of.
In terms of further integrating the Google maps option into the larger Xing network, I imagine meeting planning and travel options could be one direction in which to head, as well as other location-based resources for obtaining news/updates/etc. about individual users within your contact list can also be helpful.
