AOL Europe Signs Radio Deal With CBS For Last.fm Partnership

AOL has a number of properties in operation that have proven quite popular in recent years. One is AOL Radio. And in recognizing the value of its audio streaming platform, the company has announced its intentions to perform a relaunch of the online radio service within its European division. It plans to enhance the service with a partnership with Last.fm. The deal, announced today, expands on pre-existing relations between AOL and CBS, the parent company of Last.fm, who had struck an agreement earlier this year for US-based consumers.
To start, AOL Europe is launching its upgraded Radio service for UK- and Germany-based users. Not only will users be given the option to listen to radio streams, AOL’s arrangement with CBS allows for users to “repeatedly listen to any track they hear via Last.fm’s free on-demand service.” The option for listeners to enjoy such features were first made available to Last.fm users in January. AOL Europe’s new ties with Last.fm may provide CBS with an even larger audience to which it can distribute content.
Looking at the AOL UK, Germany, and France websites today, we can confirm that the partnership is active. If you’re someplace within the European continent, and can get hold of a local version of AOL, take a trip to the site’s Radio page. Let us know what you think of Last.fm’s integration.
