STARTUP DETAILS:

Company Name: Kazowie

20-word Description: Kazowie users can connect with friends, family members, and like-minded people by sharing gift registries, wishlists, buyer’s guides, and polls.

CEO’s 100-word Pitch: The idea for Kazowie was conceptualized while creating my daughter’s baby registries a year ago. Having spent an entire weekend both creating registries at and adding items from multiple online and offline stores, I realized that there had to be an easier way. We decided to create this unique social shopping experience. Kazowie users can easily create and share a single registry from any online shop, boutique, or megastore. They can also create wishlists, buyer’s guides and polls to share products of interest. Ultimately, what began as an online registry has blossomed into a robust, singular online social shopping experience.

Mashable’s Take: Social shopping sites are plenty. But as consumers seek their personal conveniences on the Web, there seems ample room for more. And Kazowie is something which looks and functions quite well, when sized up against the competition. It’s attractive enough, which is of course important for a startup. Good first impressions are essential. But even more so, its networking features are nicely positioned in the roster of features.

Products take a central role, naturally. Wishlists, registries, etc. More to the point, however, sharing picks with people you like (perhaps even love) is where Kazowie works great. It’s not so much shopping plus social. Or even social plus shopping, really. It’s somewhere between the two. A halfway house, if you will. Which some of you may really enjoy.
