Turn Your iPod into Pandora with Instinctiv
Posted by Kristen Nicole under 1

There’s a reason I like my Bose system better than any other I’ve had: I can tell it which songs I don’t like, and my shuffle feature eventually plays only the stuff I want to hear. It sounds a lot like the Pandora process, but with the music you’ve collected. And I’m guessing your mp3 catalog is starting to become as populous and diverse as your CD collection from a decade ago. So why can’t your iPod learn your behavior?
With Instinctiv, now it can. After installing this application, your iPhone/iPod Touch playlists will eventually tailor itself according to your preferences. First, you’ll need a jail-broken iPhone or iPod Touch. Then you’ll be able to download the application and install it on your device. Activate the Instintiv shuffle feature and it will tailor your iTunes playlists based on your behavior. There’s no voting involved (it is, after all, your own music). Simply skip the songs you don’t want to hear and be on your merry way.

Or, you could just get rid of the songs you don’t like anymore–they’re taking up valuable space on your iPod anyway, right?
Aside from the extra work that takes, should the angel-funded Instinctiv application find a way to turn this learned behavior into recommendations, then I’d be more inclined to jailbreak my iPod just to try it out. If Instinctiv could recommend songs I may like based on my listening behavior when I sync to my iTunes (or even a third party service like last.fm, but especially my iTunes), it could become a bit more useful in the long run.
