Advertisements Aside, myFUNAMBOL Makes Syncing Easy [OStatic]
Earlier, Lisa talked about Funambol's addition of non-intrusive advertisements to their myFUNAMBOL portal, at least for a few phone models.Being the somewhat reluctant owner of a new Blackberry, and a Linux user, I had heard of Funambol. I knew it was open source software, and I knew that Funambol was one of a few applications that had reasonable success syncing … [Cache] [Link]

Why Digg Should Buy StumbleUpon [GigaOM]
From left: StumbleUpon Backers Brad O Over the past few weeks, speculation has surfaced that StumbleUpon, a social media utility that was acquired by eBay in April 2007 for around $75 million, was back on the market. But as TechCrunch, which first reported the story citing an unnamed source “with knowledge of the sale process,” noted late last week, eBay … [Cache] [Link]

Are Politics Damaging Your Brand?
With the presidential election soon upon us, politics are at the forefront of many discussions. Given that “brand management” is such a hot topic, should these political discussions be avoided? Many people that use social media sites like FriendFeed are consultants in some form. Brand or reputation management is a major concern for these people. Is it possible that someone’s … [Cache] [Link]
Next Big Thing for YouTube: E-Commerce Links [NewTeeVee]
YouTube today announced it has added the option to incorporate e-commerce links from videos on its site to relevant iTunes and Amazon products. The move was expected, as YouTube CEO Chad Hurley described doing exactly that at a talk in June and such links have been out in the wild for a while now. Honestly this seems like a tiny … [Cache] [Link]
CrunchGear Reviews the Samsung SC-MX20: $250 HD Camcorder
At $249, the Samsung SC-MX20 falls delicately between cheap flash-based camcorders and more expensive hard drive-based camcorders. It strips down some features that may not be necessary in the first place – high definition video, still photos, etc. – but adds something that most less expensive flash camcorders don’t have: an optical zoom. A big optical zoom, too, at 34x. … [Cache] [Link]

Sorry for the MC Hammer play, but I try to have fun to offset bad news. Here's the deal: the HTC Touch HD you might be salivating over isn't Coming to America like Eddie Murphy. In a recent Twitter posting, a company rep says: "sad news, US. we looked into it- by the time we could bring Touch HD to … [Cache] [Link]
Snowflake, a portable USB microphone [jkOnTheRun]
One thing I've noticed recently is that netbook microphones are lacking. When we first did a Skype chat on the Acer Aspire One, I had to crank the input up before James could hear me. Then we did a Skype call on the MSI Wind and sure enough, the volume was lacking. Earlier this week James called me on the … [Cache] [Link]
Outlining in ink with a Tablet PC [jkOnTheRun]
I hate outlining. There, I feel better having said that, but I hate the writing process without outlining even more than I hate doing them. The recent conversation about pen and paper making for better thinkers ties directly into the process I use for writing articles. The outline is critical for getting a jump on writing an article and I … [Cache] [Link]
Review: AIM for Mac Beta [TheAppleBlog]
It’s been four long years since AIM 4.7 for Macintosh was released by AOL. The screenshots on their product page still show the horizontal pinstripes of the original release of OS X. The version was old. Some would say languishing in neglect. Really, though, since iChat was released in 2002 with Jaguar and featured AIM integration, Mac users have found … [Cache] [Link]
Firefox Geode: Web sites know where you are
As expected, Mozilla Labs released a Firefox plug-in Tuesday called Geode that lets Web sites figure out a person's approximate geographic location and use it in online services–as long as you grant the software permission to access the information. Geode, a preview of technology to arrive in Firefox 3.1, taps into technology called Loki from Skyhook that deduces a computer's … [Cache] [Link]
Audiophile Releases of Classic Rock Albums: Get 'Em While You Can
Since my post about Frank Sinatra's "Watertown" album almost… sort of… kind of… well, okay, came straight out and advocated downloading that out of print Frank-o-phile obscurity, this post will argue that sometimes the record industry does come up with some stuff worth buying… First off, it's bugged me for years –since the Napster days– that the public is willing … [Cache] [Link]

When Widgetbox debuted its blog network last month at BlogWorldExpo, I described it as “Web rings 2.0.” Today, that vision has come a bit more full circle, as the company has announced a partnership with Yardbarker that will feature Widgetbox Sports Channel widgets being dropped on the more than 600 sports-related blogs in Yardbarker’s network. The deal is exclusive, meaning … [Cache] [Link]
